zufrieden

adj · [t͡suˈfʁiːdn̩] ·
Etymology

Since ca. 1500, from univerbation of zu + Frieden, literally “at peace”. Likely a calque of Middle Low German tô vrēde(n), Middle Dutch te vrēden (modern Dutch tevreden), both of which date from the 13th century. Apart from the dating, this is also confirmed by the fact that the earliest High German attestations are from Hesse and the Rhineland.
